This walkthrough assumes you've already confirmed this product doesn't exist in Amazon's catalog (see How to Determine Whether a Product Already Exists) and have your product identifier ready (see Understanding Product Identifiers).

Step 1: Navigate to Add a Product

From Seller Central, go to Catalog → Add Products.

🖼️Step 1
Seller Central navigation showing the path Catalog → Add Products, with the menu item highlighted.

Step 2: Confirm this is a new listing, not an existing one

Amazon will prompt you to search for the product before letting you create a new listing — this is the same check covered in Creating a New Listing vs. Adding an Offer. Search using your UPC/GTIN to be sure.

🖼️Step 2
The search-or-create interstitial screen, annotated to show where to search by UPC/GTIN before choosing 'create a new listing.'

Step 3: Choose the correct category

Select the category that matches how comparable, well-established competitor listings are categorized (see How Category Trees Work). Amazon will show you the referral fee rate associated with your selection — use this as a sanity check.

🖼️Step 3
The product identity/category selection screen, annotated to highlight the category picker and the displayed referral fee rate.

Step 4: Complete the Vital Info tab

Fill in every required field — title, brand, product identifier, and category-specific required attributes. Required fields are typically marked distinctly from optional ones.

🖼️Step 4
The Vital Info tab showing required vs. optional fields, with a callout box explaining that all marked-required fields must be completed before submission.

Step 5: Upload images meeting Amazon's requirements

Upload your main image (pure white background) and additional images. See Product Image Requirements by Marketplace for exact specs.

🖼️Step 5
The images upload panel, annotated with the main-image white-background requirement and minimum resolution guidance.

Step 6: Review before submitting

Compare your near-final listing against the Product Listing Optimization Checklist and the good vs. poor listing example before submitting.

🖼️Step 6
Side-by-side comparison of a listing preview that will pass review vs. one with a common error (a missing required attribute) that will likely be suppressed.

Step 7: Submit and monitor

After submission, Amazon generates your ASIN and processes the listing — this can take anywhere from a few minutes to longer depending on category and current processing volume. Check back within a few hours to confirm the listing is live and not flagged; if it comes back suppressed, see How to Troubleshoot a Suppressed Listing.
