Who should sell on TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop fits brands that can produce (or partner with creators who produce) engaging short-form video and LIVE content — discovery here is driven by content performance, not search the way it is on Amazon or Walmart. It's a strong complement to, not a replacement for, a search-driven marketplace presence.

Fees

Per TikTok Shop's own published Seller Center policy, effective October 31, 2024, the U.S. referral fee is calculated on the buyer-paid amount plus any platform discount, minus tax. Most categories charge a standardized 6%, with a handful of categories at a different rate:

Category Referral fee
Most categories — fashion, footwear & apparel, phones & electronics, beauty & personal care, automotive & motorcycle, baby & maternity, books/magazines/audio, sports & outdoor, toys & hobbies, and most jewelry 6%
Diamond, gold, jade, platinum/carat-gold, and ruby/sapphire/emerald jewelry 5%
Pre-owned bags, watches, footwear, electronics, and fashion items 5% (3% on the portion of a sale over $10,000)
Collectibles, including collectible trading cards 6% (3% on the portion of a sale over $10,000)

A Refund Administration Fee applies on refunded orders — cited at roughly 20% of the referral fee, capped around $5 per SKU as of a May 15, 2025 policy update — with exemptions for creator-sample refunds and certain pre-shipment auto-cancellations; we were not able to independently re-confirm this fee's exact current terms on TikTok Shop's public Seller Center pages during this update, so treat it as directionally correct rather than exact. Pull the current category fee table from TikTok Shop's own Seller Center before pricing — fee schedules here have moved faster than on the other five marketplaces in this hub.

A note on 2026 fee-increase claims: several third-party seller-fee guides published in 2026 assert TikTok Shop raised its standard referral fee to roughly 8% (with some subcategories cited as high as 9.5–11%), but none of the ones we reviewed cite an official TikTok Shop source, and TikTok Shop's own Seller Center page still showed the October 2024 schedule above as of this update (September 6, 2026). We're flagging the discrepancy rather than repeating an unconfirmed figure or ignoring it — verify your own category's live rate directly in Seller Center before modeling margins.

Eligibility & setup

Sellers complete business verification and product catalog setup through TikTok Shop Seller Center. LIVE shopping and certain creator-marketplace features may have their own eligibility gates that can change as the program matures.

Fulfillment

Sellers are generally responsible for fulfillment; TikTok Shop's own logistics/fulfillment partnerships vary by market and have expanded since launch — check current Seller Center documentation for what's available in your region.

Growth mechanics unique to this platform

  • Affiliate/Creator Marketplace: commission-based partnerships where creators promote your products in exchange for a percentage of resulting sales, set by you per product.
  • LIVE Shopping: real-time selling during a livestream, often the highest-converting format on the platform for the brands that do it well.
  • Shop Ads: paid promotion of your product listings and videos within the TikTok feed.

Seller performance

TikTok Shop uses a seller/shop score and policy-violation tiers; specifics are newer and less externally documented than Amazon's or Walmart's equivalent programs, which is itself a reason to treat this hub's policy sections as higher-priority for frequent re-verification.
