Who should sell on eBay

eBay is the strongest marketplace covered in this hub for used, refurbished, and collectible goods, and for sellers who want auction-format flexibility. It also remains a reasonable low-barrier entry point for new sellers testing fixed-price resale before committing to Amazon or Walmart's stricter operational bar.

Fees

eBay charges an insertion fee — 250 free listings per month for individual accounts, then $0.35 per additional listing, with category exclusions — and a Final Value Fee: a percentage of the total sale price (item price plus shipping) on the portion up to $7,500, plus a small fixed per-order fee, both varying by category. The table below is eBay's published final-value-fee schedule, verified against eBay's own seller-fees page on September 6, 2026:

Category Final value fee
Most categories 13.6% (up to $7,500) + $0.40 per order (orders over $10) or $0.30 (orders $10 or under)
Sneakers over $150 8% flat, no per-order fee
Guitars & basses 6.7% (up to $7,500), lower tiered rate above
Trading cards 13.25% (up to $7,500), lower tiered rate above
Heavy equipment 3% (up to $15,000), lower tiered rate above
Books, movies & music 15.3% (up to $7,500), lower tiered rate above
Bullion 13.6% up to $7,500; 7% above $7,500
Jewelry & watches 15% up to $5,000; 9% above $5,000
Watch parts & accessories 15% up to $1,000; 6.5% from $1,000–$7,500; 3% above $7,500
NFTs 5% flat
Women's handbags 15% up to $2,000; 9% above $2,000

Sellers on a paid Store subscription tier get a lower effective rate and more free listings than the individual-account numbers above. Confirm your exact category and Store-tier rate on eBay's own Seller Center fees page before pricing, since eBay periodically adjusts category-specific rates.

Seller standards

eBay's Seller Standards program tracks defect rate, case (dispute) rate, and late shipment rate, rolling up into a seller level (Above Standard, Standard, Below Standard) that affects search visibility and eligibility for Top Rated Seller status — which itself unlocks better search placement and a badge buyers can filter by.

Fulfillment

Sellers fulfill orders themselves by default (no FBA/WFS-style program). eBay International Shipping lets domestic sellers list once and have eBay handle the cross-border logistics and customs paperwork for international buyers.

Advertising

Promoted Listings come in Standard (pay-per-sale, cost-per-click-style visibility boost), Advanced (true cost-per-click), and Priority tiers. Most sellers start with Promoted Listings Standard on their best-converting items.

Format-specific notes

eBay is the only hub in this list where auction-style listings remain a first-class option alongside fixed-price "Buy It Now" listings, and where Best Offer (buyer-initiated negotiation) is a common conversion lever, particularly for collectibles and higher-priced used goods.
