How this is calculated
Margin is profit as a percentage of price; markup is profit as a percentage of cost — the two most commonly confused numbers in pricing. Choose what you know, and this solves for the rest.
Margin % = (Price − Cost) ÷ Price × 100. Markup % = (Price − Cost) ÷ Cost × 100. These are always different numbers for the same product (e.g., 50% markup is only 33% margin) — see the linked guide for why that trips people up.
